I hired A-1 PAM Plastering & Remodeling to perform drywall installation and paint work totaling over $7,000. Unfortunately, the experience was characterized by poor workmanship, incomplete repairs, and egregiously sloppy finishing. All of the labor was performed by a subcontractor, much to my surprise. After initially claiming the work was complete, multiple significant issues remained unresolved. The attached photos were all taken after work was claimed to be complete. These included visible drywall seams, unpatched or poorly sanded corners, baseboards that were improperly cut and reinstalled, trim that was left broken and unpainted, dropped paint splotches left on flooring, doors, and fixtures, and a black door incorrectly repainted without consent. Furniture was also moved back against wet paint, causing damage. Other than for the initial estimate, at no point afterwards was an A-1 PAM employee present, not even after they claimed work was complete and problems were raised. I gave the company two extra chances to fix these problems. Both times, I was pressured to pay in full before the paint dried or a walkthrough was done. A large hole in one wall was never repaired. Many issues stayed unresolved. Despite these return visits, many problems remained completely unaddressed. I ultimately accepted a $1,000 reduction to end the matter, knowing it would cost far more to hire someone else to fix the long list of problems. Within minutes of posting my original review, the owner called to sarcastically thank me, then yelled, insulted me, and claimed my review was unfair. When I asked if anything I wrote was untrue, he did not dispute a single factonly that I shouldnt have posted it after we settled. Worse yet, within minutes of posting this review, I received a call from the owner. Rather than take any responsibility, he began by sarcastically thanking me for the "nice review," then proceeded to yell, insult me, and claim it was unfair. I asked him whether he thought anything I had written was inaccurate or untrue. He did not say that it was. Instead, I was told that I shouldnt have posted it after we had "settled." That call reinforced everything I had already concluded about the company. My review is not about a disagreement over moneyits about warning others of the shoddy workmanship and unprofessional conduct I experienced. I cannot in good conscience recommend A-1 PAM for any home renovation work. -------------------- REGARDING THE OWNERS PUBLIC RESPONSE: The owners reply to my review contains several false and misleading statements that I want to correct: 1. I never asked to keep the budget low or do the absolute minimum. I wanted a quality job and paid accordingly. 2. I never asked to remove ceiling painting from the quote. This claim is fabricated. 3. During the job, the subcontractor suggested doing extra work off the books, told me to keep it secret from the owner, and said I could pay him directly. I did not request thishe proposed it himself, which I found highly unprofessional. 4. I never indicated I was satisfied after the $1,000 reduction. I agreed only to avoid further risk of poor work. 5. The owners claim that my photos were taken before the work was completed is falseevery photo was taken after he told me that the job was finished and demanded full payment. These misrepresentations, combined with my documented experience, reinforce my decision to share this warning.

We had them install a bathroom exhaust fan in our master bath, along with a new vanity and sink in our 1/2 bath. Attention to detail is important to us so I was confident we were in good hands when Greg first visited to assess our needs. I felt he was extremely knowledgeable and thorough in his review of both of the bathroom spaces and in the discussion of what we were wanting done. Joanna coordinated with us on scheduling and project details. Andy and Adam later performed the work. He also brought great ideas to our remodeling project. The vendors he works with for the cabinets, countertops, and flooring are just as good and their coordination was flawless. I highly recommend A-1 PAM for anyone's remodeling project. A-1 PAM provides quality consultation, professional service and exceptional work -- a fantastic end product. We initially engaged A-1 PAM based on my niece's suggestion and seeing how fantastic her renovated kitchen was. We decided to engage them for two-bathroom projects --- last year and this past month. Both bathrooms were completely redone with the second bathroom having a bathtub removed and curbless shower added. The initial meeting is thorough where Greg listened to what we wanted and provided possible options and ideas to better enhance the end product. They assist with finding vendors that they know will not only have a wide choice of selections but are reliable to have the items delivered seamlessly. Our team for both projects were Andy and Adam --- they were personable, experienced, reliable and no detail was overlooked. The timetable that we discussed was adhered to and there were no surprises to the price. It was refreshing to see how a great contractor could bring a project to you --- timely, efficiently, within the budget and with all details finished within with timetable. Total professionalism.

Home renovation project(s) were delivered on-time, on budget and finished job exceeded our expectations. If I could give 6-Stars I would. Scope of work: My wife and I wanted to relocate our 1st floor washer/dryer to a 2nd floor closet (with no electrical, no gas, no water, no exhaust) and build a new wet bar from scratch on our 1st floor. So not your standard cookie cutter kitchen and bath renovation project. We interviewed a half dozen GC's on the North Shore, some higher end, some lower end and then found Greg / A-1 PAM through a neighbor referral, actually, two neighbor's highly recommended Greg to us. Greg and his Team ran a perfect home renovation project from the initial consultation to project completely (4 weeks start to finish). What my wife and I loved most about Greg and Team was: - Greg's Crew (namely Peter who is the best) showed up everyday at 8am and worked the entire day like clockwork. Dependable. - Peter's attention to detail was incredible, no sloppy work and everything was professionally done. - We couldn't believe how clean Peter kept his workspace during and at the end of each day (note, our family lived in the home throughout the entire renovation. - Finally, my concern going into our home renovation projects were unanticipated costs surfacing mid project because the GC didn't thoroughly scope the project on the front end. NOT the case with Greg and A1 PAM, project came in to the penny from his original estimate. Greg and Team, thank you again for all your amazing work and can't wait to tackle our next project together soon my friend!

A-1 PAM was excellent for our kitchen renovation. Greg handled our bid. Scheduling was easy, and the discussion about our plan was efficient. We explained what we needed out of the project, and proposed some additional things we'd like if the budget allowed. Greg was upfront about which of those items were workable, and for those that were, he was upfront about the associated costs. For those that were expensive, he suggested lower-cost alternatives for us to consider. Everything we needed went into the bid, and he was patient with clarifying questions on the bid so we could be sure we were comparing equally across all the bids we sought. He was also patient with the various questions we had as we pre-ordered building materials, finishes, etc. so we could be sure everything would work with the project plan, and worked with the vendors as needed to eliminate confusion. When we signed the contract, he was clear about the timeline for starting and what things might delay the start; nonetheless, they started on the exact date they indicated. The lead on the project was Andy, who was absolutely fantastic. He was always prompt and polite, and kept the site as clean as possible given the material that needed to be removed. He immediately shared any problems that arose due to choices made in prior kitchen projects (including from up to 100 years ago), and was patient in waiting for responses. He and his team move incredibly quickly on demo, including handling a particularly difficult floor removal. He communicated clearly about what stages the project would move in for install, and stuck to that schedule. When we requested minor (no-cost) adjustments from what he had expected based on the plan, he was receptive to the ideas and honest about their feasibility. His work was extremely high quality. All told, A-1 PAM completed the ~250 square foot kitchen renovation, from demo to finish, in four weeks. We absolutely LOVE the new kitchen. Barring something extremely unexpected, we would hope to work with A-1 PAM on any other house projects we contract out in the future.

A-1 redid my kitchen. Here's what you need to know: I live in a 98-year old midrise in East Lakeview. Getting repairs or construction work done here is always a bear and generally twice as expensive as you expect it to be (Don't ask me what it took and what it cost to replace an interior front door). The kitchen was previously remodeled about 20 years ago by what had to be the cheapest handyman service every. Nothing looked or worked right. Heck, even the sink drain didn't slope towards the drain, so I was forced to snake my own kitchen drain every six months. Greg, Andy and Joanne did a great job for us. They provided detailed blueprints and plans, they walked us through the entire process, telling us what they would need and when. They told us to expect the job to take three weeks. It took exactly three weeks. The price they quoted us is what we paid. We made minor scope additions, and those got added in, but it was clear that those were scope changes we requested. All in all, I felt like these folks treated our kitchen like their own instead of "some job." We highly recommend.

We have used A-1 Pam for two remodel projects at our Evanston home. The first was a major project which involved opening up walls, removing an entire chimney, and completely renovating nearly the entire first floor of our house, including a new kitchen, new floors, HVAC additions, electric and plumbing re-routes, etc... The second project was about a year later when we had a leak in our shower. A-1 Pam came in and demo'd and rebuilt the entire shower. Plain and simple, they are excellent. When I interviewed 8 contractors for our major project, Greg (the owner) was the ONLY contractor who came in and had ideas. He was never simply a 'yes' man who presented a proposal but rather someone who listened to our hopes, spent time with us, and very often responded with "I hear your ideas, but we can also achieve something very similar by doing 'X' - which will save you much more on costs." And sure enough, he was right. His bids were always very reasonable, and he is an absolute collaborator. His workmen are PHENOMENAL. They always arrived on time, answered any questions I had, cleaned up impeccably daily, and went far and beyond with their level of workmanship. We love what they have done to our home and would not hesitate to recommend them for a moment. They are our go-to contractor, and we will be using them yet again in the near future.
