When I finally talked with him, he said he was trying to give me a deal and lowest quote, but hey, that does not mean quoting for half the job! I told him he could re-quote for the full job, but that's not happening.

My community is suddenly littered with illegal yard signs that make my neighborhood look trashy. I wouldn't hire a company that shows disregard for its neighbors and ignores laws for marketing. Streetside yard signs are violations of pretty much every city's codes (including Walker, Grand Rapids, Kentwood, etc) and so are signs on telephone poles, highway exits and commercial property without permitting. It's not an accidental overstep or two; the signage strategy is just plain illegal from the start. Ameliorating the problem doesn't require much more information (city codes are easy to access, and you could also call the city offices to ask). Just removing all the signs and not using them anymore is the basic solution.

Terrible experience with Mr. Handyman. If I could leave 0 stars, I would. We had a microwave vent installed in September 2022, and it's been a nightmare ever since. Water is coming through the vent and into our kitchen, our cabinets, and down our drywall. This has occurred from three months after installation to present with date stamped footage we presented to them. At and prior to installation, the company convinced us to vent through the roof and we unfortunately trusted their professional experience, after they confidently and verbally confirmed that there is no way water would work its way from outside of the house, into the vent, and into our house. Venting through the roof required much more labor time and material compared to venting 3 feet out the side of the microwave, through the side of the house. In retrospect, that is likely why they recommended venting upwards, so they could charge us more. During installation, Mr. Handyman cut unnecessary holes in our attic without our permission and ultimately charged us for this (property destruction) service. In January 2024, we asked Mr. Handyman for a remedy for the water leaking issue and their response was that they would be happy to charge us several hundred dollars (nearly what we paid in September 2022) for them to fix the issue they caused. We have been trying to reach them for most of the month now to try and get this resolved as we feel that we should not need to pay several hundred dollars for their mistake, and they have been completely unresponsive. They only communicate when they can upcharge you or sell you on something, but when it comes to resolving issues they caused, they go silent. Update/ Edit in 2025: Not only did the above occur, they couldnt diagnose the root issue. Come to find out all of this occurred because they didnt insulate the venting to begin with, which is standard practice. So, we had to pay for that, after all they charged us.

I have hired Mr. Handyman numerous times over the years. I prefer using Mr. Handyman over hiring a self-employed person because there is always someone is always available when I need them and Mr. Handyman does excellent work. Last month I had a shower floor leak that damaged the ceiling below. I was given two quotes by the plumber that initially came out and by a recommended contractor. Both recommended an entire shower stall replacement for $10-12K. I decided to call Mr. Handyman. Aaron from Mr. Handyman came by the same day I called and he informed me that we only needed to replace the shower floor, not the entire shower stall, and it would cost about half the price. Aaron repaired the shower floor and damaged ceiling below in less than one week. He showed up on time every day. Aaron is cordial and did a spectacular job. He has been assigned to us before and I would request him again. Additionally, I was able to loop in my insurance company and they worked with Mr. Handyman to get all the information required and I received insurance reimbursement a week later. I have and will continue to recommended to Mr. Handyman to friends and family.
