Being from Richmond, I've known about N. Chasen Co. most of my life. And have always thought of you as the premier painting company in Richmond. When my wife told me she'd called you for an estimate to paint the interior of our home, I kind of chuckled, thinking the estimate was going to be way more than we wanted to pay. Even some RVA friends said it would be a high estimate. Then we met with Mike Martinez. He was excellent at explaining how N. Chasen would do our project. And then we received the estimate.....I can only say that I was floored. The estimate was a few thousand dollars less than another estimate we almost accepted. Because of the savings, we added more work that we didn't think we could do. Not only was the price excellent, but so was your workmanship and professionalism. And the idea that you gave us 2 weeks after the work was completed before we had to pay, giving us time to make sure we were happy with the work, was amazing! I'm so glad my wife reached out to you. We look forward to working with you again for our future painting needs.

From every step of the process to initial consult, the reception team, and production team, everyone was courteous, kind, knowledgeable, and professional. Prior to our project being started we were provided with a detailed itinerary of what to expect. They did excellent work painting our lofted living room and kitchen ceilings. We had a little revision work that needed to be done and they were back out the next morning and everything turned out perfectly. We used N. Chasen to install some grass cloth wall paper on an accent wall in our great room. There were two sections of wall on either side of a fireplace and the walls were polygon shaped. The highest point was about 14 off the floor. They also had to cut out around windows and shelves. They did an amazing job. They were quick, clean, professional, affordable, and we didnt have to pay them a dime until the work was completed to our satisfaction. I highly recommend them!

We chose N Chasen to help us refinish our dining room after a recommendation from a family member who had impressive results for their room remodel. When we moved into our house the dining room had old, outdated wallpaper that was partly removed by the previous owner anyway. I did the did the rest of the removal with a steamer, but that effort left damages to the walls as the paper was difficult to get it to release without pulling layers of paint and part of the drywall paper. N Chasen confidently repaired the walls to include a sealer to prevent any remaining glue from "bleeding" through. They then painted 2 coats on everything from the ceiling, the crown and chair moldings, the window and doors trim, then to the baseboard, all with our choice of colors for the wall and trim. What a relief to have this project done and we can now use our dining room.

Everything set out in the contract was done on schedule and done well! The minimal needed touch-up work was done immediately and to a high standard. We have used Chasen before, so we were not really surprised. Or rather, perhaps we were surprised only by the contrast between Chasen and some other contractors (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.) whose service ethic has slipped somewhat in recent years. This project, though substantial, was a bit of a test, and Chasen passed with flying colors! We will be scheduling other projects with them in the near future. It's hard to overstate the value of knowing that the work will be done skillfully and that you will be dealt with in good faith.

If you are interested in hiring these folks for wallpaper installation, do so with caution. Please make sure to put everything in writing! I hired N Chasen & Son Inc. to hang wallpaper in 2 bathrooms. One of which I was unsure if I wanted to paper a focus wall only due to the pattern and the size of the powder room. I explained this during the consultation and was told I will put you down for a full day job for now. Let us know if anything changes. I shared that I would not know of a change until the day of install. I decided to only wallpaper a focus wall; therefore, it was less than a half-day job. I was invoiced for a full day and then informed the least amount of time they will accept jobs is a full day. I should have been informed of this when I was told I will put you down for a full day for now - like there was an option. In other words, even if your job will not take a full day, you will be invoiced for a full day of installation. They do NOT tell you this and the contract does NOT specifically state this. Contract is very vague and ambiguous. Also, the installer was very messy. After I asked him to remove his shoes, he did so for upstairs only. He stepped on the downstairs powder room toilet, leaving marks. He also did not remount the toilet paper dispenser in the powder because when I walked in later that day, it almost fell off the wall. (It looked like it was mounted properly when I examined the work before the installer left, but it was definitely not secure.). He also did not clean up after himself. Quite a bit of pieces of wallpaper, with glue, on the floor, attached to cabinets and the sink. Again, I did not see the bits and pieces until after the installer left. You would think installers would be mandated to clean up properly. Very disappointed. I will never use these folks again. Lesson learned!

I contacted N. Chasen and Son to replace our shutters. While working on the quote for the shutters via email, a wind storm tore some trim off our house, so I asked if they could include that as part of the work (as well as replacing some siding and a louver). They sent someone out the next week to check the shutter dimensions and determine what was needed for the trim, siding, and louver. They suggested repainting the louvers instead of replacing, and sent me a quote for all the work and to get it scheduled. On the scheduled date, Marcus was on time and very friendly. He walked me through everything they were going to do and explained that the shutters were on backorder and would be in later in the week, but he replaced the trim and painted one of the louvers (he needed a longer ladder for the second). He had to return a few times to finish the work, but he made sure it was all completed and the quality is fantastic. I'm very pleased with my experience with N. Chasen and Son and will definitely hire again when I have need.
